NEW: PillowTalk – The Real Thing

Last Saturday night a couple of friends and I ventured out to Plastic people for the first time since it’s refit. Gilles Peterson was in charge of proceedings and we were treated to a superb selection of funk, soul, jazz, house and everything in-between. Now before we set out, I was introduced to this lil number by long time 72 Booms supporter Wriggles. A magically uplifting edit from San Fran trio PillowTalk, it’s the best I’ve heard since Kon’s rework of ‘Hooked on You’. It’s taken the best elements from the original and kept things simple, I defy you not to tab your feet to that cheeky bassline. And the vocals are perfect, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell have such incredible chemistry in their songs, the duo were never lovers but Gaye once described their relationship as “two lovers that might have been, in a play or a novel.” and you can really hear that sentiment when they sing together. It’s a great track to lift the mood this dark an grey October is putting most of us in.

Out to Wriggles for this one…
